Before leaving the US

And they’re off!

airfrance headToday’s the big day. It’s been a year in the making and it took nearly a ream of paper to print out all of the documents we needed but we’re actually doing it – we’re moving to France today and we couldn’t be happier.

We started this adventure just after Thanksgiving 2014 although at the time we didn’t know exactly where we were headed. A thorough search around the US for a new place to live just didn’t have the appeal that France offered. Once we discovered the blog written by fellow Americans Tracy and Alan who used to live in Carcassonne we knew right away that this southwestern city at the foot of the Pyrenees and not far from the Mediterranean Sea would be where we would call “home”.

Even though we’ll be moving into a totally furnished house for at least the first year, it will still take us a while to get settled. Some routines will get sorted out quickly such as when and where Heather goes for a walk. Others, including which bakery has the best croissants, or which sidewalk café serves the best espresso, will take some time. We look forward to the investigation and hope that you’ll continue along with us on the adventure!
