Do you know why we are really moving to France? So that Bill will wash the dishes and do the laundry. He will do anything for the aroma of grapefruit. We found that out by accident years ago in Germany when we bought a bottle of dishwashing detergent that was scented with orange and grapefruit. He encouraged me to eat on several plates just so that he would have an excuse to fill our vacation rental apartment with the fresh smells of spring. We brought home two bottles and on subsequent trips to Europe we tried unsuccessfully to find them again.
Years later on a trip to Paris with friends we found this scent back in stock and Kate volunteered to bring a bottle home for us in her checked luggage. When she returned to Charles De Gaulle airport the authorities made her pour out a very expensive bottle of perfume that exceeded the 3 ounce maximum for carry-on luggage. Luckily she’s only reminded us once that our 2 dollar bottle of dish liquid made it through without a problem but I imagine that since she follows this blog there will be a comment below!

The other photo you see here is from the laundry room of the house we rented on the coast of Normandy this past May. Bill said that if this were our view all of the time he would be happy to wash the clothes and iron them. Hmmm, wash the dishes and do the laundry. Do you think they make grapefruit-scented vacuum cleaner bags and dust mops too? I’m going to LOVE living in France!
Yes that really is the view from the laundry room in Normandy while the tide was out. I actually did all the laundry while we were there as you can sit at the window with coffee or a drink while you wait for everything to finish. That was a lovely house with the fish market just out the front door on the harbor. http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p633397a

I had forgotten about the inexpensive dish washing soap in my luggage, but not Bill’s love of the scent of pamplemousse or my loss of $100 worth of Chanel No. 5. It was a bummer, however, the memory is almost worth the cost!

The essential oil of grapefruit is known for a number of health giving properties, including relief from muscle fatigue and stiffness, as well promoting hair growth and improved skin tone. Perhaps Bill has a ‘cunning plan’?

Wow, sounds like role reversal is headed your way in France. Just buy the essential oil and put it all cleaning products.
I did love the laundry room in Normandy. I wouldn’t mind ironing there either.
